Each month a beer club booklet needs to be created for the Half Dozen Starter Pack, Dozen Enthusiast Pack and 24 Pack Crowd Pleaser. These are the steps to create this booklet.
How to Create the Dozen Enthusiast Pack (used to create all other booklets)
1. Source PNG images, with a transparent background, for each of the beers that will be used. Save these in the Beer Club folder under the correct year and month for the respective beer club e.g. for April 2017 Dropbox > Beer Cartel > Beer Club > 2017 > April (you will need to create a new folder each month if this has not already been done)
2. Go to the year and month folder for which you are writing the booklet for.
3. Go to the Enthusiast Folder and rename the PowerPoint booklet template filei.e. rename the document with year month and type e.g. April 2017 Booklet - Dozen Enthusiast.ppt
4. Open the PowerPoint document and do the following:
- change the booklet issue number, month and year on the front page. To determine issue number click here
- write an article for the booklet on something that is topical / interesting. List of past topics here
- update each beer page to have brewery name and beer name (ensure to have a comma between brewery and beer name)
- update each beer page to have correct Origin, beer style, ABV, colour, serving temp, type of glass in the top table of each page. You can find info on type of glass and serving temp here. Note: for origin, if the beer is Australia type in the abbreviated state name e.g. VIC for Victory, NSW for New South Wales etc. If the beer is from an international brewery then write in the country name. E.g. England, New Zealand, Belgium, USA etc.
- write description for each beer, often these can be copied from the product page on our website but should also include a little bit of interesting facts about the brewery or the history of the beer.
- add the link to the beer product page on our site. Do not include the http or the www and end slash (/) in the link. C capitalise the brewery and beer name. Link should look like this example: beercartel.com.au/Hop-Nation-The-Buzz-American-Red
- insert the correct beer bottle PNG image onto the pages. Each image should be auto/completely cropped and scaled to a height of 8cm for bottles and 6.5cm for cans. Also change its brightness to +20%. Position the beer bottle on the left hand side of the text of each page
5. Find a beer quote to place on the last page. You can find previously used quotes here, these can be used but ensure that you are using one from at least 12 months prior to the date of the booklet you are writing. Once you have selected a beer quote to use update the cell next to it to indicate which beer club booklet issue it has been used in e.g. #90, April 2017. This means the quote was used in issue 90 which was April 2017. This assists future writing of beer club booklets to know when the quote was last used.
6. Save the file.
7. Print a copy and read through, looking for grammar or spelling errors.
8. Make amendments if any mistakes found then save the file again.
9. The Dozen beer club booklet is complete.
Print & Review
Once completed the booklet needs to be printed and reviewed by another person for any mistakes prior to creating the other booklets. Update any amendments/changes required.
How to Create the 24 Pack Crowd Pleaser Booklet
1. Make a copy of the Dozen beer club booklet that was just created and save it in the same folder
2. Rename this file as the 24 Pack Crowd Pleaser e.g. December 2015 Booklet - 24 Pack Crowd Pleaser
3. Open the file and on the front page rename "Dozen Selection" to be "The Crowd Pleaser"
4. Save file. 24 Pack is now created.
How to Create the Half Dozen Starter Pack Booklet
1. Make a copy of the Dozen beer club booklet that was just created and save it in the same folder
2. Rename this file as the Half Dozen Starter Pack e.g. December 2015 Booklet - Half Dozen Starter Pack
3. Open the file and on the front page rename "Dozen Selection" to be "Half Dozen Selection"
4. Delete the 4th beer as it is not part of the Half Dozen pack
5. Insert a blank page as page 2. This will bring up the total page count back to 8 which is required when printing these booklets (event number of pages are needed)
5. Save file. Half Dozen starter pack is now created.
Printing of Booklets
Determine how many beer club packs are required by running the filter as explained in "Estimating Volumes" section of the intranet.
Open the relevant booklet that requires printing, select booklet printing format and number of booklets to be printed.
The booklets then need to be folded and stapled to create the booklet. This is done using the long arm stapler. 2 staples are put into the spine of the booklet.
Expert Quarterly Pack
The Beer Club Booklet for the quarter pack is a condensed version over a couple of pages due to the number of beers that are included.
