Multiple Beers with the Same Barcode
Some brewers use the same barcode for multiple beers, e.g. seasonal releases. This means that when scanned more than one beer will be shown to select from manually. Please ensure that you select the correct product as incorrectly selected products creates stock on hand variations and you will likely be underselling or overselling a product, i.e. charging more or less than what should be charged.
Non Bar-coded Stock - REQUIRE A PLU STICKER USING THE TICKETING GUN
All beers that are sold in store need to have a barcode or a PLU number, the latter gets applied manually if the stock does not come with a barcode on the label. No beer is to be placed on shelves or sold unless they have a barcode or PLU label created.
Some beers that come without barcodes include but are not limited to:
- Westvleteren (blonde, 8, 12)
- Some of the Cantillon range
- Hanssens
- Struise
- Red Duck
- De Molen
- Limited release beers
To Create A PLU Ticket Follow These Steps:
1. Get the ticketing gun
2. Ensure it has tape and sufficient ink - see video below on how to replace if necessary.
3. Look up the PLU of the product to be ticketed in RSA
4. Adjust the number dial on the ticket gun to be the PLU number of the product you want to ticket
5. Pull the trigger slowly to release each ticket.
6. Place the ticket on the back side of the bottle/can - not on the label, but directly on the glass or clear section of the can.

Existing Labels
Labels for beers we have already stocked can be found and printed from the document already on file in Dropbox.
Dropbox > Beer Cartel > Products > Labels for ABV etc
Open and print what is required from the document named Barcode Labels for Beers.doc
New Labels
If a new beer (or previous beer) which does not have a barcode needs a barcode made up use the following website to create the barcode. http://www.barcode-generator.org/
Steps to Create Barcode Using The Barcode Generator Website
1. Select "Code 128 (standard) from drop down box
2. Enter the PLU in the data field, prefixed with 100 e.g. PLU is 14398 then barcode number becomes 10014398
3. Click "Create Barcode" button
4. Select Download as "JPG" and Size "Small"
5. Click "Download"
6. Paste it in new row in the Barcode Labels for Beers word document (found in Dropbox > Beer Cartel > Products > Labels for ABV etc)
7. Crop the barcode down so it looks like the others
8. Add the beer name under the barcode
9. THIS STEP ONLY FOR SOME BEERS - if the beer does not have the importers details on the label / bottle and/or does not have ABV or bottle size information then this information also needs to be added to the barcode label as follows:
Imported by [insert imported business name]
[insert importers address]
[insert standard drinks]
[insert ABV and bottle size]
For example Westvleteren 12 looks like this
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| (barcode)
PLU NUMBER
Westvleteren 12
IMPORTED BY THE INTERNATIONAL BEER COLLECTOR
PO BOX 7125 REDHEAD NSW 2290
APPROX 2.7 STD DRINKS
10.2% ALC/VOL 330ML
10. Save the document and print the sheets with labels you require using the 21 labels per sheets adhesive labels (same as what is used for growler/squealer information tags)
11. Place the barcode labels onto the beer bottles in a "empty spot", i.e. not over the top of other labels/information.
If you are unsure what exactly a labels is meant to look like refer to the existing labels in the word document.
