A ongoing "counter special" or Point Of Sale special is offer at the register in store. This is done for a few reasons:
- provides value to customers in a discounted item as part of a purchase in store
- provides an easy upsell at the counter, similar to McDonalds "would you like fries with that?" upsell.
- assist in selling slower moving products/glassware
- assist in moving slow moving "promo" items that have been given to Beer Cartel as part of promo buys on beer (glassware, caps, hats, bottle openers etc).
- when used to sell glassware it promotes the use of glassware when drinking beer
The counter special almost always a beer glass, but in theory could be any other item that offers value and where margin could still be made.
To offer the counter special follow these steps:
1. Decide on a product. The product must be sold for a discounted amount between $5 and $10, where the normal price is between $10 and $20 and therefore inherently having perceived value to the customer.
2. Ensure that the product still has a margin of at least 40% (at the discounted rate).
3. Go to the "Counter Specials" PLU in RSA 14612 and adjust the selling price and product recipe according to the product that is going to be sold.
4. Ensure that the sign on the counter is reflective of the selling price, update if necessary. NOTE: minimum spend to qualify is $30
5. Bluetac one of the glasses / items to the counter, this is use to display what item is available as an item.
Process complete.
