Changing Ribbon Colour In GIMP

In GIMP the colour of a selected section can be changed using a function called Colorise.

To do this select the area you would like changed,e.g. trace the contour of the grey ribbon using the Free Select Tool. Then once selected go to the menu at the top and select Color > Colorize.

To change the ribbon from grey to red select the numbers
